IBA-Pulse — When Light Itself Says No

IBA-Pulse · Physics-Constrained Pulse-Code Modulation · Continuation of GB2603013.0

WHEN LIGHT ITSELF SAYS NO

IBA-Pulse encodes cryptographic intent directly into the electromagnetic carrier wave. Unauthorized data cannot propagate — not because a gate blocks it, but because the waveform physically will not carry it.

CARRIER WAVE ENFORCEMENT

The intent fingerprint is encoded into the optical carrier wave. Watch the MZI gate enforce constructive interference on compliant pulses and destructive interference on deviations. The light itself enforces the law.

FROM DECLARATION TO CARRIER WAVE

IBA-Pulse extends the existing IBA enforcement stack all the way to the electromagnetic carrier. Layer 1 is unchanged. Layers 2–4 are the novel IBA-Pulse invention.

L1 Intent Declaration Unchanged from IBA GB2603013.0. Structured JSON intent certificate → SHA-3-512 hash → ECDSA/Dilithium signature. Output: 512-bit Intent Fingerprint + temporal window metadata. Cryptographic root-of-trust for the entire IBA-Pulse stack.
L2 Waveform Encoder ★ NEW. Maps the Intent Fingerprint onto a pseudo-random phase/amplitude pattern in the optical carrier using integrated photonic modulators. Stream cipher seeded by the fingerprint generates the allowed modulation template. Any data not matching this pattern is physically attenuated — greater than 30 dB loss. The intent is encoded into the light itself.
L3 Pulse-Code Gate ★ NEW. Mach-Zehnder Interferometer array tuned to interfere destructively with any signal deviating from the allowed waveform template. Temporal sharding via variable delay lines — after expiry, the MZI self-destructively misaligns. Gate latency: sub-100 picoseconds. The primary enforcement primitive of IBA-Pulse.
L4 Quantum Sentinel ★ NEW · Optional hardening. Entangled photon pairs generated on-chip. Any unauthorized observation collapses the phase relationship → destructive interference → signal annihilation. Makes man-in-the-middle and side-channel attacks physically detectable and self-terminating. Quantum-mechanical security guarantees beyond classical photonic enforcement.

THE ALTMAN ARGUMENT · WHY PHYSICS GOVERNANCE IS INEVITABLE

“The discovery of deep learning is closer to discovering an element or a fundamental property of physics than it is a secret technology.”

If intelligence is a fundamental property of physics — then software guardrails are the wrong governance tool. You cannot govern a physical law with a policy document. IBA-Pulse governs intelligence at the same layer it operates. There is no prompt injection for light. There is no jailbreak for a pi-phase shift.

FIVE INDEPENDENT CLAIMS

Technical disclosure filed March 13, 2026. Timestamped via OpenTimestamps. Priority date February 5, 2026 preserved under PCT. 150+ countries through August 2028.

Claim 1
Waveform
Encoding
A method for encoding a cryptographic intent fingerprint derived from a signed AI agent authorization certificate into the phase and amplitude modulation pattern of an optical carrier wave in a photonic computing interconnect, such that data not conforming to the encoded pattern is physically attenuated below operational threshold.
Claim 2
Pulse-Code
Gate
An apparatus comprising a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer array configured to perform destructive interference on optical signals whose modulation pattern deviates from a reference template derived from a signed intent certificate, wherein gate latency is sub-100 picoseconds and extinction ratio on violation exceeds 40 dB.
Claim 3
Temporal
Expiry
A method for implementing time-bounded authorization in a photonic computing system through variable delay lines in an interferometer array, wherein expiry of the authorization window causes permanent physical misalignment of the interferometer, making re-authorization by software means structurally impossible.
Claim 4
Quantum
Sentinel
A system for detecting and terminating unauthorized observation of intent-modulated optical signals using entangled photon pairs generated on-chip, wherein unauthorized observation collapses the phase relationship and causes destructive interference terminating the signal.
Claim 5
Audit
Watermark
A method for generating a non-repudiable optical audit trail via weak sideband modulation of allowed pulse trains, combined with irreversible revocation via fiber Bragg grating scatter at the intent wavelength.

DeepMind Independently Arrives at IBA Primitives

Google DeepMind (arXiv:2602.11865, Tomasev et al., Feb 12, 2026) independently introduced Delegation Capability Tokens — the same primitive as IBA’s Intent Certificate. IBA-Pulse extends this convergence to the physics layer. Two independent research directions arriving at the same architectural conclusion — now extended to carrier-wave enforcement.
